Ashley Skermer is highly trained in assessing and treating physical imbalances and unhealthy movement patterns, enabling her to resolve chronic injuries and prevent future difficulties. Through massage therapy, she can reduce your pain due to stress or injury; provide comfort before and after the birth of your child; and address common musculoskeletal concerns for women in Kelowna.
Drawing from advanced studies in human anatomy, physiology, health, and movement analysis, Ashley understands the unique health concerns of women today. Her passion and enthusiasm for helping her patients move and feel better is demonstrated through her extensive massage and yoga training.
Ashley’s primary concern is to create a comfortable, friendly, and safe space to effectively treat the women of Kelowna and the Okanagan. She is also trained and experienced with the unique needs of maternity patients and women with musculoskeletal complaints, such as pain in the hips, back, pelvis, and neck.
Advanced training courses and mentorship with Body Therapy Educator and globally recognized expert on maternity massage, Carole Osborne, has given Ashley an education grounded with advanced technical skills in pre, peri, and postnatal massage. As well, she has developed her ability to assess and recognize medically complicated and high-risk pregnancies. With this training she has the tools needed to restore and rebalance abdominal functions and movement for postpartum patients.
Ashley earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Vancouver Island University, developing a comprehensive knowledge of the various musculature and skeletal systems, and how everything works together, before completing her education at the Okanagan College of Massage Therapy to achieve her RMT designation.
She balanced her extensive education with practical experience working with industry leaders in massage therapy clinics in Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Building on her understanding of how the muscles of our body work together to create movement and support, Ashley became a Yoga Teacher through the Red Door Yoga School on Vancouver Island. She has completed over 500 hours of Yoga Alliance approved training. Ashley has demonstrated her competence as a Yoga Teacher and offers relaxing yoga classes that complement her massage therapy, enabling her patients to continue to enjoy a pain-free lifestyle.
Through yoga instruction, Ashley has developed home exercises that enable her students and patients to improve their mobility while creating a sense of mindfulness and passion; realizing their true vitality and embracing a body-positive, healthy experience that provides an escape from everyday stresses.
